Close a ticket
Finish a conversation, choose closing messages, and check the transcript before deleting its channel.
Close a ticket before deleting its Discord channel. Closing ends the conversation, sends the configured sign-off and rating request, and saves the channel transcript. Deleting the channel is a separate action.
- Close the conversation. Run
/modmail closein the ticket channel when support is finished. - Let the member know. Modmail sends the configured closing content and offers a rating when enabled. Silent close options let you leave selected content out.
- Keep the record. The ticket is marked closed. The HTML transcript goes to the transcript channel, or to the closing confirmation if it can't be posted there.
- Remove the channel when ready. Use Delete Channel after checking the closing confirmation. Logged messages remain in the dashboard.
Close the conversation
Use the command in the ticket channel, with staff access to its category.
- Run
/modmail close, or type.close. - Wait for the closing confirmation. Transcript generation can take a moment.
- Check for Ticket closed in database. and Delete Channel.
- Check the transcript destination, or the file on the closing confirmation.
The dashboard marks the ticket closed and the channel topic clears. You don't need to enter a close reason. If the channel isn't a live ticket, the bot reports Ticket not found. or marks it invalid instead.
What the member receives
A normal close sends the category's configured close message and optional close snippet. If ratings are enabled for the bot and category, the member also gets rating controls. Without a configured close message, a rating prompt uses the built-in fallback wording.
After closure, the member can message the bot to start a new ticket, subject to your current support availability and blacklist.
Leave out closing content
Use /modmail close with silent:true, or .close silent, when you need to
skip automated closing content. If only a plain close message is configured,
it closes without sending that message. When a close snippet or rating is
also configured, choose what to leave out in the menu.
| Choice | What it leaves out |
|---|---|
| Skip close message | The closing message and rating request. |
| Skip close snippet | The configured closing snippet. |
| Skip rating | Rating controls, while keeping the closing message. |
You can select more than one option. Submit the selection to close. If you don't select an option within 60 seconds, the action cancels and the ticket stays open.
Reopen a recently closed ticket
Run /modmail reopenticket in the closed channel if the conversation needs
to continue. You must be an admin of its category. Choose Reopen and notify
to tell the member, Reopen quietly to reopen without that notification,
or Cancel.
Reopening requires all of the following:
- The channel still exists.
- The ticket closed no more than seven days ago.
- It's the member's latest ticket.
- The member doesn't already have an open ticket.
If the channel is gone, use the dashboard record for context and start a fresh ticket instead. See Recover lost tickets.
Let members close their own tickets
A snippet with Close button enabled gives the member a red Close button in their DMs. Selecting it runs the normal close flow, records the ticket as closed by the user, and leaves Delete Channel available for staff. The button becomes unavailable after use.
Delete the finished channel
Closing leaves the channel available for final review. When you've checked the record, select Delete Channel on the closing confirmation to remove it immediately.
Deleting an open channel skips normal transcript generation. Close first, then check the transcript before removing the channel.
