Blacklist

How blacklisting works

Understand who a block affects, what members see, and when they can contact support again.

Blacklisting stops a member from opening new Modmail tickets through one bot. Use a temporary block with an expiry or a permanent block that you remove manually. It doesn't close existing tickets or change the member's server roles and access.

Where a block applies

The member can't open a new ticket by messaging the bot or using a panel. They see an explanation that tickets aren't available to them. A temporary block also shows when they can try again; a permanent block has no end time.

Blocks belong to the selected bot. Blocking or unblocking someone on one bot doesn't change another bot's blacklist.

Staff can still start a conversation

When authorized staff create a ticket for a blacklisted member, the bot shows a warning. For a temporary block, it includes how long remains. Continue anyway opens the ticket; Cancel stops the action.

This lets your team contact a blocked member when needed without letting the member bypass the restriction themselves.

Existing conversations stay open

A block affects new tickets only. Your team can keep working and close an existing ticket normally. Use your usual Discord moderation tools separately if you also need to change server access or roles.

When a temporary block ends

The member can open tickets again after the expiry without staff removing the entry. An expired entry can briefly remain visible until the list updates, but it no longer blocks the member.

Entries record the member and expiry, not a reason or notes. Keep the context for a moderation decision in your team's own records.

Next steps
