Control access with roles
Choose who can send messages as your bot and who can change Text Utils settings.
Members with Discord Administrator permission can always use
/utils say and /utils dm while those commands are enabled. Everyone else
needs at least one Discord role from your allowed roles list.
An empty list keeps staff messaging administrator-only. These roles don't control personal reminders or access to the AeroNexus dashboard.
Choose allowed roles
Give access to roles whose members you trust to speak as the bot.
- Open your bot's Text Utils page in the dashboard.
- Under Access and logs, open Roles (optional).
- Select the Discord roles that can use both messaging commands.
- Select Save Changes.
For example, if you select Event Team, members with that role can send
messages as the bot. Other members can't, unless they have Discord
Administrator permission. Use Reset to discard unsaved changes.
Remove access
In Roles (optional), remove a role and select Save Changes. Members who relied on that role lose access unless they hold another allowed role or have Discord Administrator permission.
Access is checked again when someone submits a message form. Removing their access while they're writing stops the message from being sent. They see a private permission notice; nothing posts publicly.
Decide who can change settings
Sending messages in Discord and managing settings in the dashboard require separate permissions.
| To… | A person needs |
|---|---|
Use /utils say and /utils dm | An allowed Discord role or Discord Administrator permission |
| View Text Utils settings | View Text Utils dashboard permission |
| Save Text Utils settings | Manage Text Utils dashboard permission |
Dashboard permissions come from approved Dashboard Roles. The group owner always has access, and a Dashboard Administrator has all dashboard permissions. Read how dashboard access works for the approval process.
Someone with Manage Text Utils can change who sends messages as your bot. Give this permission to people you trust to manage that access.
If a member can't send
Check that Text Utils and the individual command are enabled, then check the member's Discord roles. A permission notice means they aren't allowed to send; a notice that the command is turned off means the bot's settings need to change. Both notices are private.
Next steps
Set up the moderation log before your team starts sending, then try a channel announcement.
