Message a member in private
Send one member a direct message from your bot and confirm delivery.
Use /utils dm to send one member a direct message from your bot. They see
the bot as the sender. You get a private confirmation when delivery succeeds.
A configured moderation log records the full message, your name, and the recipient. Private delivery doesn't hide the message from staff who can read that log.
Send the message
Run the command in a server channel and choose the member you want to reach.
- Run
/utils dmand select the recipient in who. - Optional: Choose style and color. Use No color with Text.
- In Send a direct message, write up to 2,000 characters in Text.
- If you chose Custom color, enter six hex digits such as
2BD3AFin Color. - Review the message and submit the form.
The bot confirms delivery privately and names the recipient. No message posts in the channel where you ran the command. Closing the form without submitting sends nothing.
For the full style and color choices, see choose a style and a color. Both messaging commands use the same mention settings.
If the message doesn't arrive
If the bot says it couldn't send the DM, the member may have direct messages from server members turned off. Contact them through another suitable route and ask whether they want to allow DMs, then try again. If they prefer to keep DMs closed, use that other route instead.
Failed delivery updates the moderation log entry to failed when logging is available. Read its Details field for the reason. A failure isn't a successful send.
Other problems, such as an expired form, removed access, or an inaccessible log channel, use the same recovery steps as channel announcements. The form lasts 15 minutes, works once, and must be submitted where you ran the command.
Choose when to use a ticket instead
Use /utils dm for a one-off message. For a conversation your team needs to
answer and track, use Modmail. Read
reply publicly or in private
for the ticket reply flow.
