How sends are tracked
Find who sent a message, read delivery outcomes, and resolve moderation log problems.
When you configure a moderation log, it records /utils say and /utils dm
messages with the sender, destination, and full content. Open that channel
when you need to check what was sent or investigate a failed delivery.
Follow a send
Each logged attempt has one entry that updates as delivery progresses.
- pending means the bot has recorded the message and is trying to send it.
- success means delivery succeeded. The entry turns green.
- failed means delivery failed. The entry turns red and includes a reason.
Success and failure are alternative outcomes of a pending entry. The bot updates the original entry rather than posting a separate result. Log entries don't notify people mentioned in the content.
Read an entry
The entry includes the delivered message content and a timestamp, followed by these fields.
| Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Run by | The staff member who sent the message. |
| Command | /utils say or /utils dm. |
| Destination | The channel or DM recipient. |
| Style | Text or Container, with the accent color if used. |
| Outcome | Pending, success, or failed. |
| Details | The reason for a failed send, when available. |
Use Discord's search to find a member, command, or phrase. For a delivery problem, start with the failed entry's Details. Entries stay in the channel until someone deletes them, like other Discord messages.
Know when a send has no log
Logging depends on the channel selected in moderation log settings.
| Log channel state | What happens |
|---|---|
| No channel selected | Messages send without a log entry. |
| Saved channel was deleted | Messages continue without logging. Select a replacement channel. |
| Channel exists but the bot can't write there | The send is blocked. The sender receives a private notice. |
| Bot can write to the channel | A pending entry is posted before delivery is attempted. |
If a send is blocked, restore the bot's permissions to view and send in the log channel, then retry the command. There won't be an entry for an attempt that couldn't be recorded there.
Keep the log private
DM entries include the full note sent to the member. Restrict channel access to the staff who need that information. Turning off Text Utils doesn't delete existing log entries, and changing the destination only affects future ones.
