Setup

Choose destinations

Choose DMs or a server channel, set which servers trigger a message, and adjust its appearance.

Choose a destination for each message under Delivery in the editor. Join and boost messages can go to the member's DMs or a server channel. Leave messages always go to a channel.

Two places a message can land

Use a DM for information intended for one member, or a channel for messages you want people with access to that channel to see.

DestinationGood forWhich server triggers it?
Member's DMsA welcome, useful links, or a private boost thank-youAny linked server you select under Source servers
Server ChannelPublic greetings, farewells, or boost announcementsOnly the server that contains the chosen channel

Join and boost drafts start with Member's DMs selected. You can change the destination before or after saving. To send both a DM and a channel post, create two separate messages.

Where the event happens decides which message can send.
  • Main server
  • Staff server
  • Support server

Choose which linked servers can trigger this message.

Member's DMs

Join and boost messages go privately to the member.

  • The channel's own server

Only events in this server trigger the message.

Server Channel

Join, leave, and boost messages go to your chosen channel.

Leave messages always go to a channel.

Pick a destination for a message

Open Join messages, Leave messages, or Boost messages for your bot, then create a message or open an existing one.

  1. Under Delivery, find Send to.
  2. Select Member's DMs or Server Channel.
  3. For DMs, select at least one linked server under Source servers: Main server, Staff server, or Support server.
  4. For a channel, select the channel in Choose a channel…. The source server follows your channel choice automatically.
  5. Select Create for a new message or Save Changes for an existing one.

The next matching event uses your saved destination. Changing a destination doesn't resend messages for earlier events.

Channels must belong to the event's server

A channel message only sends for events in the server that contains that channel. For example, a join message aimed at your main server's welcome channel won't announce arrivals in your staff server.

Choose a channel in each server you want to announce events in, using a separate message for each destination. The bot needs permission to view the channel and send messages there. Members also need access to the channel if you want them to see its announcements.

Leave messages go to channels only

The Member's DMs option is disabled for leave messages. Choose a channel in the server the person leaves, such as a staff log or community channel. Once someone leaves, they may no longer be able to receive DMs from your bot.

Choose how the message looks

Under Appearance, choose the style that suits your text. The preview shows your current draft.

Message styleAppearanceText limit
Container with accentA card with an accent color4,000 characters
Plain textA regular Discord text message2,000 characters

For a container, keep Use default accent on to use the bot's default color. Turn it off to choose a color for this message. If you enter a color value, use a six-digit hex color.

When a destination becomes unreachable

A deleted channel, changed permissions, or closed DMs can prevent delivery. One failed message doesn't stop the other matching messages from sending.

After changing a channel or its permissions, run a simulation. A successful DM test confirms delivery to you; another member's privacy settings can still block their DMs.

Next steps

Arrange your slots to control the sequence when several messages match the same event, or check a missed delivery.
