Placeholders and testing

Preview with simulation

Test your saved join, leave, and boost messages in Discord.

Use Simulation to send your saved messages in Discord before relying on them for real members. The test uses your signed-in Discord account as the member, so you can check the wording, placeholders, and destinations.

A simulation sends real messages. Channel posts are visible to everyone who can read the destination channel. Your server membership doesn't change, and you don't need to join, leave, or boost to run a test.

Before you start

Save your message edits, then check that:

  • Welcome Messages is turned on for the bot.
  • The bot is online and connected to Discord.
  • Your signed-in Discord account belongs to the linked server you want to test.

The simulator uses your latest saved messages. Unsaved edits won't appear in the test.

Run a simulation

Open your group and bot in the AeroNexus dashboard, then follow these steps:

  1. Open Welcome Messages, then Simulation.
  2. Under Test server, select a linked server your Discord account belongs to.
  3. Under Choose an event, select Simulate join, Simulate leave, or Simulate boost.
  4. Wait for the result banner, then check your DMs and the destination channels in Discord.

Each event card shows how many messages you have saved for that kind of message. Only messages that match the selected server are sent. If you haven't saved any, the test confirms that nothing is sent.

Read the result banner

The result tells you how many messages matched the test and how many were sent. Use it alongside the messages you see in Discord.

ResultWhat to do next
Simulation completeAll matching messages were sent. Read them in Discord to check the wording and layout.
Nothing was sentNo saved messages of this kind matched the server. Check the destinations and source servers if you expected a message.
Simulation partly completedSome messages were sent. Check the destinations of the messages that didn't arrive.
Messages couldn't be sentMessages matched, but none were sent. Check the bot's channel permissions and whether DMs are open.

Nothing was sent can be the result you want, such as when you've removed all messages of a particular kind.

If the simulation can't run

A Simulation failed banner includes the reason the test couldn't run. Follow the instruction in the banner, then try again.

ProblemHow to continue
Welcome Messages is offTurn it on in the feature's setup page.
The bot is offlineStart the bot from the dashboard. Follow any connection instructions shown there.
Your account isn't in the selected serverJoin that server with your signed-in Discord account, or select another linked server you belong to.

Test after an edit

After changing a message, save it and run the matching simulation again. Check both the result banner and the delivered message: a successful delivery confirms it was sent, while reading it in Discord confirms it looks right.

A successful test uses your account's permissions and DM settings. Another member may still have DMs closed, so a test can't guarantee that every member will receive a direct message.

Next steps

Use the placeholder reference to personalize your messages. If a saved message still doesn't appear, follow when messages don't arrive.
