Farewell leaving members
Post a goodbye or staff notice when someone leaves.
Post a message when someone leaves a linked Discord server. Choose a community channel for a friendly goodbye or a staff channel for a departure notice. Leave messages always go to a channel.
Create your farewell
In your group's dashboard, open your bot and go to Welcome Messages > Leave messages. Then create the message:
- Select Create a new message.
- Write your farewell under Message text. Use
{{user.display}}for the departing member's display name. - Under Delivery, choose the channel for departures. It must be in the server the member leaves.
- Under Appearance, choose Container with accent or Plain text.
- Under Event options, turn on Include bot accounts only if you also want notices when bots leave.
- Check the preview and select Create.
The message applies to future departures. You can save up to three leave messages, and every matching message sends in your chosen slots and order.
Write a message that fits any departure
Leave messages send both when someone leaves on their own and when your team removes them. They don't distinguish between those reasons, so keep the text neutral and avoid saying why someone left. Bot departures are excluded unless you enable Include bot accounts for that message.
A short goodbye can read:
{{user.display}} has left {{server.name}}.
Thanks for being part of our community. Take care! For a staff notice, you can include the current member count and the time of the departure:
Member left: {{user.username}} at {{general.dateTime}}.
{{server.name}} now has {{server.memberCount}} members. Here, {{general.dateTime}} is the current date and time, not the member's
join date. See the
placeholder reference
for other details you can include.
Choose who sees the notice
A community farewell belongs in a channel your members can view. A staff notice can stay in a private channel, as long as the bot can post there. Either way, the channel must belong to the server where the departure happens.
You can't send leave messages to Member's DMs. See choose destinations for the shared channel rules and what happens when a destination is unavailable.
Include invite totals in a staff notice
With Invite Tracker on, leave messages can include the inviter's updated numbers after a departure. For example:
{{user.username}} has left.
{{invite.inviterDisplay}} now has {{invite.total}} invites,
with {{invite.retained}} retained members. When Invite Tracker is off or the details aren't available, invite variables
show fallback text such as None, Unknown, or Unavailable. Leave them
out if that text wouldn't help the people reading the notice. The
placeholder reference
lists the available invite details and totals.
Check that departures reach the channel
Use preview with simulation to test your saved farewell without leaving the server.
If a real departure doesn't produce a message, check that Welcome Messages is on, your bot was online when the member left, and the selected channel still exists in that server. The bot also needs permission to view and post in it. See when messages don't arrive for the full checks.
