How attribution works

The life of a join

Understand credited invites, vanity links, bot additions, and pending joins.

When someone joins, Invite Tracker records the arrival and tries to identify who invited them. This is called attribution. A join can be credited to an inviter, recorded as a vanity or bot join, or left unconfirmed.

When an inviter gets credit

Discord doesn't tell bots which invite link a person used. Invite Tracker compares invite use counts around the join and credits the link's creator only when one link clearly accounts for the arrival.

For example, Ana's invite has 12 uses. Bo joins, Ana's link rises to 13 uses, and no other link changes. The tracker attributes Bo's join to Ana.

If five people arrive together and only Ana's link increases by five uses, all five can be attributed to Ana. If two links increase during those same arrivals, the tracker can't tell which person used which link and doesn't assign an inviter.

What each outcome means

Find the join in Activity to see its source and whether an inviter was confirmed.

OutcomeWhat happens
Regular invite confirmedThe link's creator receives attribution; invite checks and counting mode determine how it affects their numbers
Vanity linkThe join is recorded through the server's shared custom link, without credit to a member
Bot addedThe bot account is recorded separately and doesn't affect human invite counts
UnconfirmedThe join stays visible, but no inviter gets credit
PendingThe tracker hasn't reached a final outcome yet

A vanity link is your server's custom invite URL. Even when the tracker can identify that link, it doesn't identify an individual recruiter.

Check whether a confirmed join was flagged

Attribution identifies the inviter. Your suspicious-invite checks decide whether the join also receives a fake flag for account age or a quick return.

A flagged join stays in history with its reasons. It's excluded from Confirmed, and your counting mode determines the deduction from Score. Read tracking rules for the checks and counting modes for the formulas.

If the join is pending or unconfirmed

A pending join can resolve later when enough information is available. Refresh Activity to check its outcome. Pending doesn't guarantee credit: if the inviter can't be established, the final outcome can be unconfirmed.

An unconfirmed join doesn't add credit to anyone. Its saved reason helps you explain the outcome; later activity doesn't turn a final unconfirmed join into a credited one.
