Use the editor
Build layouts with reusable components, adjust appearance, and control your draft before saving.
The embed editor shows your component forms alongside a live Discord preview on desktop. On narrow screens, Edit and Preview show the same draft in separate tabs. Use Back to embeds to return to the group's list.
Choose your components
Every embed has one Container. Expand it to edit its contents and add components with the insertion controls.
| Component | What you can build |
|---|---|
| Text | A nonempty block of Discord markdown, with a character counter and an emoji picker. |
| Section | One to three text blocks with one accessory: a thumbnail or a link button. |
| Image | One large media item. Adding another image converts it into a gallery. |
| Gallery | One to ten image or video items, subject to the embed's total media limit. |
| Separator | Small or large spacing, with an optional visible divider. |
| Button row | One to five link buttons. |
Text blocks can also become sections: select Add accessory, then choose Thumbnail or Link button. In a section, use Section accessory to switch between those two choices. Switching replaces the accessory, so fill in the new accessory's settings.
Edit text, buttons, and appearance
Text uses the inline Discord markdown editor. Open compact settings rows to edit buttons, thumbnails, gallery items, and separators. Settings change your draft immediately; Done, Escape, or closing the popup returns you to the editor without publishing.
A link button needs a Button destination and either a Button label or an emoji. Labels can contain up to 80 characters. You can enter a Unicode emoji or provide a numeric custom emoji ID, with an optional name and Animated custom emoji setting. Disabled keeps a button visible while preventing interaction. Buttons open websites; they don't run bot commands.
Under Appearance, turn Show an accent color on or off and choose the color. Hide container as a spoiler hides the whole container. Individual media items also have their own spoiler setting.
All website and media URLs must be complete HTTP or HTTPS links, no longer than 2,048 characters, without an embedded username or password.
Arrange and reuse components
Use drag handles or the move arrows to reorder components. Duplicate copies a component within its list, and Remove removes it from the draft. Text blocks also offer Move text to section when another valid location is available. Sections hold at most three text blocks.
Adding or duplicating components can increase the payload beyond its overall limits even when a particular list still has room. Watch the bytes, components, and media counters above the editor. See payload limits for how they are counted.
Undo, reset, and save
Use Undo and Redo in the toolbar to move through draft changes, including component additions, removals, and JSON imports. Outside text fields, Ctrl+Z or Command+Z undoes a change, and adding Shift redoes it. Inside the markdown editor, undo follows the text editor's own history.
Select the pencil button labeled Rename embed to change the name. A rename becomes public when you save, and doesn't change the permanent URL.
For an existing embed, Reset restores the last saved version in your editor. Save validates the draft and publishes it. Invalid fields open their relevant form or settings popup so you can correct them. A failed save keeps your changes in the current editor; keep the page open while resolving the error.
